Introduction to Nutrition and Food Technology

First of all, I would like to welcome you to my blog. This is my very first time in blogging, so please excuse me for any mistake I've made.

Here, I want to share with all of you about my major. I choose Nutrition and Food Technology basically because I love to eat. I hope to be able to learn a lot about food when I first decided to be in this major, but then I realized, that's not the exact reason I choose this major. Instead, I want to be able to improve the quality of the food producing in Indonesia right now. As we know, most of Indonesian people don't hygiene food. They eat what they want to eat, they don't care about the quality of the food as long as the taste is good. They don't mind about the side effect from their eating habit that definitely will cause them some terrible ache in the future. Even some of them have a motto: "eat whatever you want to eat when you still alive". This motto is totally wrong. I'm eager to change their mindset, that the most important thing of the food is the nutrition that is in the content of it to maintain the body healthiness.

What's exactly that we learn in Nutrition and Food Technology?

In our first class, our lecturer, Mr. Albert Kuhon, made us to introduce ourselves so that we know each other. He also asked why we chose this major, what motivated us.

Then, he gave us a piece of paper and asked us to answer the following questions:

1. What's our goal?

2. In the next 5 years, what would we do?

3. In the next 10 years, what would we do?

4. -What will be our obstacles to achieve our goal?

    -What will be our ways to achieve our goal?

    -What will be our solutions to achieve our goal?

His purpose of giving us this kind of questions is to make us to commit on what we have decided. He wants us to remember all of those answers and reminds us that we don't come here to play, but to achieve our goals.

After a long way of introduction, our lecturer showed us some videos that contain about how high technology brings massive influences in processing raw materials.

Somehow we're no longer need to be troubled in watering broad cornfield. We used to go around the cornfield to make sure the whole cornfield get enough water and pesticide. But now, with high technology, we could easily stream down the whole cornfield only by turning on a flying machine. Then the machine will spraying water and pesticide all over the cornfield.

In the matter of livestock, we don't need to slaughter dozens of animals anymore. Scientists have discovered a new way to process living cattle into meat. The first step is starting with the operator give the cattles some kind of gunshot that can cause euthanasia. The cattles will suddenly unconscious. Then the machine will drag them out and turn them upside down to be prepared for the next process.

Now I know that high technology makes everything easier and simpler. Especially in this major, I learn about food processing with high technology. I enjoy studying in this major. And the lecturer is making a great first impression.
